Introduction:

Nestled in southwestern Uganda on the fringes of the Rift Valley, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned for safeguarding nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, the park boasts mist-covered hills enveloped by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests. Its existence dates back over 25,000 years, harboring almost 400 plant species.

Park Overview:

• Biodiversity: The park, part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, spans 331 square kilometers of montane and lowland forest. It’s a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site and is accessible only on foot.
• Flora and Fauna: Home to 120 mammal species, including colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, elephants, and antelopes. Additionally, the park shelters 350 bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers.

Mountain Gorillas:

• Population: Approximately 340 individual mountain gorillas inhabit Bwindi, constituting almost half of the global population.
• Conservation Challenges: Disease, habitat loss, and poaching pose significant threats to the gorillas.
• Endangered Status: Mountain gorillas are classified as an endangered species, with an estimated global population of about 650 individuals.

Gorilla Tracking Permits:

• Reservation: Permits must be booked at least two months in advance due to high demand.
